How to tell a Diamond is real

Some supporting facts and ways by which one can determine whether a Diamond is real or not.

1) Ask for certificate and appraisal from the jeweler with regard to Diamonds.

As described in the earlier sections, there are mainly two international agencies who are certifying the Diamonds. 1)AGS- American Gem Soceity, 2) GIA - Gemological institute of America. Other agencies include European gemological Institute, IGI, HRD. Certificate shows weight, carat, quality, cut, and other specification. Appraisal shows the monetary value of the Diamond. The thing to look in the certificates issued by these agencies is how consistent they are.

2)Place your Diamond upside down and place it on a Newspaper. If you can read the News paper, then it is not a Diamond.

3)Place the Diamond in front your mouth, and fog it. Force breath out in front of the Diamond. If it fogged for more than 2-4 seconds, then it is not a pure Diamond.

4)If Diamond tester is available with the Jeweler from where you are going to buy the Diamond, then ask for it and test the Diamond.

5)With Ultra violet or black light on its body, Diamonds show florescence of blue. This test is not genuine as better quality Diamonds, sometimes not produces blue fluorescence.

6)On looking through a Magnifying lens, from the top, the facets of the Diamond should be sharp. It facets should not be rolled. If the girdle is faceted or frosty, then the Diamond is original. If the facets or girdle is waxy and slick, then the Diamond is fake. If there is inclusions when you look through the magnifying lens, then it can be assumed that it is a Real Diamond. It is very hard to put inclusions inside the Diamond.
